Banks Peninsula to Timaru,

Sunday 19 th to Wednesday 22 nd of January

3 days to paddle 135 km of strait coast, with dozens of estuaries, of various size and current speed. To keep our mind busy, we play together mental games, or concentrate on our forward technic, or enjoy surfing when lucky enough to be pushed by East wind and swell. It is a dry Summer, dairy farmer use rivers to water their land, some river are now dry. Salmons, which have been successfully introduced in NZ, tend to disappear nowadays, to the dismay of lots of Kiwi fishermen. A big thanks to Jeremy and Page who welcome us in their garden Monday night and offer us a hot shower, the first since we’ve left home ! We admire a 25 kg salmon hanged as a trophy in their living room. Thanks to Tony who drive and show us the Rangitata estuary. Our new day record is now of 61,5 km !

Then resting and shopping day on Wednesday … Another enormous thanks to Joan McLeod who advice and drive us through town for our shopping. She saves us so much energy for our resting day !
