It looks like a long journey…on land

Tuesday the 4th
After quite a damp night, a nice couple drive us at Invercargill, as weather won’t improve for a few days. We’ve let our tents on the free campsite at Fortrose and our kayaks in a garden nearby and find shelter at Tuatara Lodge.

Wednesday the 5th
Torrential downpours on the mountains, 200 tourists evacued from Milford Sound, the roads has been destroyed by 1 meter of rain for the last 60 hours! A phone call from Fortrose let us know they’ve had to move our tents and kayaks as the river is flooding. No good weather window before next Tuesday. It is time for laundering, waterproofing our not-so-quite-waterproof jacket before Fiordlands, making new foam sits for our kayaks as our bottoms get sore after 8 hours on ours, and drink a few beers amongst dozens of bikers : it’s Burt Monroe Challenge 2020 this week in Invercargill.
Another positive point of been stuck on land is that all our small wounds and blisters are now cured!
